Instructor: Doug Billings

K-12 educators will develop a thorough understand of the methods and techniques of the many variations of Hand-Pulled Original Printmaking. Including the development of skills in carving, inking and printing relief blocks; Creating images using Poly Plate
Lithography, inking and printing lithographic plates. Also, learning the basic techniques and processes in intaglio printmaking in dry point prints on plastic plate and line/aquatint etchings on copper plates. Participants will be required to produce two prints for each of the three processes. Print sizes will be either 3 x 5 or 4 x 6. Through workshop/studio time, educators will deepen their knowledge base while expanding their portfolio and best practices to foster and construct creative activities that support student success in the classroom. Investigation and discussion of the history, and current status of the original hand pulled relief print, as well as proper methods for conservation and exhibition of prints. Participants will engage in several relief printmaking techniques, individually and in combination. This offering is open to all experience levels.

Doug Billings received an Masters in Fine Arts in Printmaking from Wichita State University. He established a new printmaking program at Mark Arts in 2002 and has taught printmaking classes since then. Billings founded and is the director of the Tallgrass Press Printmakers Association, established in 2013. He is also a member of the Boston Printmakers, the Society of American Graphic Artists, the American Color Print Society, the Philadelphia Print Club, and the American Print Alliance. He has exhibited his work in Australia, Europe, and across the United States. He is a member and former president Gallery XII in Wichita and a former president and board member of the Artist Guild of Wichita.
