Raku Workshop

This event is no longer on sale.

Thursday May 13

1:00 PM  –  4:00 PM

Current Mark Arts students have the opportunity to glaze their work and participate in the alternative firing technique known as Western Style Raku. This quick firing process yields unpredictably gorgeous results by taking the glowing hot piece from the kiln and placing it in a container of combustible materials. A remarkable range of effects can come from this reduction atmosphere.

Students will need to bring 2-3 small to medium pieces that have been bisque fired to choose from. Only 1-2 will be selected to be fired based on space in the kiln.

Death Valley clay will work for this process, but for more brilliant results, Stony White clay body is recommended.
