Mark Arts is pleased to present striking, recent work by celebrated Wichita-based artists Torin Andersen and Denise Irwin. un/wound/up explores memory and transformation through distinct visual languages. Andersen’s paintings center on the audio reel and box as symbols of time and containment—reels represent the cyclical nature of time and the process of recording and storing memories while boxes symbolize the physical containers of history. Irwin’s clay works evoke the slow fluid motion of the Kansas prairie through form and glazes. She throws most work on the wheel and then alters it by adding and subtracting to generate visual tension. Both artists create a sense of joy and connection between past and present through their work.
Join us in celebration of the artists at the opening reception on May 30. Guests will enjoy live music and a cash bar. Welcome remarks will take place at 5:45 p.m.
